First: it is east
Torrox sits in the Axarquía, next to Nerja, which is the other side of Málaga from Fuengirola and Marbella. You drive through the whole city to get between them, and it takes a good hour from Fuengirola.
If your daily life depends on the Swedish School, a Swedish-speaking doctor or friends in Los Boliches, all of that is on the other side.
Two Torrox
Torrox Costa is on the sea, with a promenade of over four kilometres. The municipality has seven beaches; Ferrara and El Morche are the largest and best served.
Torrox Pueblo is the white village inland, in the Torrox valley at the foot of the Sierra de Almijara. They are two different ways of living, with different prices and different routines.
The municipality had 21,583 residents on 1 January 2024 according to national statistics, 651 more than the year before.
About the climate
Torrox markets itself as the town with the best climate in Europe. The claim rests on a comparison the company MeteoGroup made between 21 towns around the Mediterranean, and it is used by the council and by Turismo Costa del Sol. The council quotes an annual average of 18 degrees and over 300 days of sun.
We repeat the claim because you will come across it. We do not confirm it: it is marketing, not a measurement we can stand behind ourselves.
An honest word on our listings
We have 25 properties in Torrox. That is almost nothing next to Marbella or Estepona, and it reflects how small the municipality is. At the same time, Swedes search for Torrox considerably more than the supply would justify.
It means what comes onto the market goes fast, and that it pays to have someone searching the whole market for you. Tell us what you are looking for in a search brief and we will call when something appears.
What to check here in particular
- Costa or Pueblo. They have little in common beyond the name. Visit both before you decide.
- The drive to the airport and to Málaga. There is no train east of the city.
- Building condition and community finances in the large complexes at Torrox Costa, many built in the eighties.
- Registered floor area against what is built in the houses up the valley, where extensions are common.
Getting around
By car. The C-1 commuter line runs west from Málaga; east of the city there is no line. Buses run along the N-340 and the A-7 towards Málaga and Nerja.
